About Me
Hello, and welcome to my portfolio! My name is Wesley Hobbs, and I am a Creative Professional and Artist, with over 10 years of experience in Graphic Design, Video Production, Writing, and Marketing. I have a BFA in Film Production from the New York Film Academy, and have found my passion in telling stories through a wide array of creative mediums.
I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, where most of my life was spent on a ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Growing up surrounded by nature was a true privilege, although it meant being far away from my peers - and lots of free time on my hands. I took it upon myself to use this time to educate myself in creative art forms. At 16, I started a clothing brand called Only In Santa Cruz, which required an understanding of basic Graphic Design and Marketing skills to succeed. I spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of Adobe Creative Suite, enhancing my design abilities every chance I got. Only In Santa Cruz became a major success in my teen years, but I had a bigger passion in mind for my future - a Film Director. In 2015, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Film Production at the New York Film Academy.
While attending NYFA, I learned everything about Filmmaking, from Screenwriting to Pre-Production, Cinematography to Editing, and even Scheduling and Budgeting productions. I dedicated myself to the craft, and in 2018, I found success at the Burbank International Film Festival, where my Thesis Short Film, The River Styx Motel, placed as a Semi-Finalist and was screened for thousands of attendees. In this short film, I served as the Writer, Director, and Editor.
THE RIVER STYX MOTEL
Semi-Finalist at the Burbank International Film Festival
The River Styx Motel was my 4th Short Film, and premiered at the Burbank International Film Festival in 2018. This film took 6 months of Pre-Production, from writing, scheduling, budgeting, casting, and location scouting being the most demanding aspect of the intensive green-light process. The shoot itself consisted of 3 nights of shooting, with a crew of 10, a cast of 4, and an on-location set at the 4 Aces Movie Ranch. Post-Production took approximately 4 months to complete, with numerous edits, visual effects, and a custom score that was produced by Harrison King Music. This film is now available here on my site, and on Amazon Prime Video.
After graduating, I decided to take my storytelling abilities in a new direction that would allow me to build a career that aligned with my interests. In this search, I discovered Marketing. My first experience in the Marketing field was on Commercial shoots. Working directly with companies on large-scale commercials allowed me to build the world around their vision, and create engaging creative that would draw customers to the product. I fell in love with this concept, and knew that my best next step was to join a company full time, and use all of my skill sets to help craft their stories in the same way.
In 2018, I began my Marketing career as a Graphic Designer and Videographer, and have since built upon my skill sets exponentially. I have become a master of Design and Video Production, and have successfully utilized my skills over the last 6 years to scale companies and their respective marketing departments. In the years to come, I hope to continue expanding my career, and learn new creative skills in the process.
